Morning Skincare Routine

Our skin is our biggest organ, and we should treat it with the love and respect it deserves. If you’ve ever met me, you’ll know that skincare is one of my favourite things. I love trying new products, testing new methods out and putting together routines. While my bank account isn’t too happy about it, I certainly am – there’s something comforting about the ritual of applying products, and taking time for yourself is always important. This is my standard morning skincare routine and the products that I’m currently using.

Glossier’s Milky Jelly Cleanser

I always start the day off with a clean face, and that means giving it a good go with a cleanser. I prefer jelly-textured cleansers, especially when I don’t have makeup to take off, as they leave my skin smooth and hydrated. My current two favourites are  the Glossier Milky Jelly Cleanser and The Ordinary Squalene Cleanser. They’re pretty similar in consistency and leave my skin dewy, fresh, and ready for the next step. They both have hydrating ingredients too, which is great if you often wake up feeling a little dehydrated and want to give your skin a boost before your first drink of water kicks in.

Toner or Exfoliator
Pixi Rose Tonic

Depending on whether I used a retinol or exfoliated the night before, I’ll either use a hydrating toner, like the Pixi Rose Tonic, which I like as it minimises redness and calms skin, or boost my cell turnover and make my skin glow with a liquid exfoliator/acid, like the Glossier Solution. They’re both really simple to use – just pop a few drops onto a cotton pad and swipe all over. (If you do use an exfoliator or any kind of acid in the morning, please make sure to use an SPF! You’ll thank yourself when you’re 80.)

The Ordinary’s

To be totally honest, I’m a bit confused by serums in general. There are so many formulas and ingredients out there it can be hard to know what will work and what doesn’t. At the moment, I’m using The INKEY List Q10, which is a powerful antioxidant that protects your skin from environmental damage and stressors, or The Ordinary Hyaluronic Acid, a cult favourite that is essentially a tall glass of water for your face.

The INKEY List Hemp Oil and Glossier Priming Moisturiser

Nothing makes you dewy like a moisturiser. Essential for plumping, smoothing and soothing the skin, a good moisturiser is an essential. Because I have very oily skin, I like to use a lighter formula in the mornings so that any makeup that I wear doesn’t completely slide off by lunchtime. I’m currently testing out the The INKEY List Hemp Oil and an all-time favourite of mine that I’m never without is the Glossier Priming Moisturiser.

The Ordinary Mineral UV Filters

This is generally considered the most important step in anyone’s skincare routine. Even when you’re not holiday, when it’s not sunny, or when you’re not even leaving the house, it’s so important to wear sun protection on the daily. Not only will it protect your skin from UVA and UVB which means less wrinkles and slower ageing (win!) but a lot of SPFs will protect you from pollution too. I’m currently using The Ordinary Mineral UV Filters SPF 15 with Antioxidants, but I also like Glossier’s Invisible Shield.

That’s it! That’s all the skincare I do in the morning, because, let’s be honest, I’m half asleep until about midday. Sometimes I add more steps and make it a bit more of a ~self care~ moment, but on a day-to-day basis, this routine suits me just fine.
